Thrown on the potter's wheel using iron rich clay from St Agnes, Cornwall this barrel bellied mug sits comfortably in the hand. Glazed in traditional Shino glaze - this mug was sat near the front of the wood kiln which means it got exposed to more heat and ash. The glaze has rich fiery tones with variation of rust and tan. The darker areas is where carbon is trapped beneath the glaze.

The toasty raw clay is revealed at the base. you can see the path of the flames where the clay has taken on a metallic sheen on one side. My finger marks are still evident where I gripped the mug during gazing.

There is slight bubbling of the glaze but this natural evidence of the violent wood fired process. You can see this in the pictures. It does not effect the function of the mug. This is reflected in the price.

Fired to 1300 degrees C.

My potter's mark is on the base. The mug in the picture is the one you will receive.
